The inspiration for this painting came from my visits to New York City. It was after the events of 911, as the city rebuilt itself. As an American I experienced the horrible terrorist attack in New York through the eyes of the media.
The doors of New York are numerous and varied. Each door represents a point in time of the life of the building, of the people and of a city. The people of New York had terrorism invade their homes, it came through their doors into a world where we keep safe and find shelter. To me the people of New York shut the door on terrorism by rebuilding their lives and moving forward against insurmountable grief. The painting expresses the reality and unreality of that event.
